Bánkút
The people of Miskolc can count themselves really lucky to live in an unparalleled natural environment, at the foot of the Bükk Mountains, embraced by mountains and hills. The Bükk is the most beautiful in winter. On the alleys lined with trees frozen in snow and rime-frost the silence is only broken by squirrels and an occasionally falling icicle. Those who is loving active recreation have good enough cause to visit the ski paradise on top of the Bükk Mountains, Bánkút. 20 kms from Miskolc lies one of Hungary's best-known and best-situated ski resorts, the Bánkút Ski Centre. On the slopes of the Borovnyák Top (945 m) and the Bálvány Peak (956 m) there are 7 ski runs of various degrees of difficulty (blue-black) as well as sledge courses with lifts. The capacity of the disc lifts and push-arm lifts is 2.000 persons/hour. The length of the longest run is 1.500 metres, the maximum height difference is 230 metres. Visitors are welcomed by ski runs well maintained after the first snow fall and lit up at night, with snow machines, numerous ski lifts. Various accommodation are available at the Ski Centre and in its vicinity.

You can reach Bánkút:

• By bus - on city bus No.15 to Ómassa, then on foot to Bánkút, the following trail-marking S+ (4,6 kms)
• By car - from Miskolc-Lillafüred via Szentlélek, or by the Eger-Felsőtárkány-Mount Bány route.
• Ski-bus - depart from the Tiszai railway station

Bükkszentkereszt
In the beautiful hill settlement of Bükkszentkereszt the biggest snowboard jump competition is organized every year. If you have visited Bükkszentkereszt you should not miss out on the unique recreational opportunity of horse sleighing. You can take a wondrous ride wrapped up in a warm cover with mulled wine in your hand in the snow-covered forests of the Bükk Mountains in the clearings gleaming in the winter sunshine.

Skating Rink
Those who would like to do some kind of winter sports, but have not got the courage to go in for skiing are recommended to visit the new Ice Hall with two skating rinks.
You can have the opportunity of skating or chair-skiing in the overfrozen Hámori Lake is a popular destination in the winter time.
