    Have you ever been to a cave? You certainly have. But have you ever swum in a natural cavern? Not yet? You can make up for what you have missed in Miskolc-Tapolca, in the amazing Cave Bath. And that is not all: you can spend a couple of romantic nights in the most beautiful Hungarian castle, the Hotel Palota of Lillafüred; you can take a boat on picturesque Lake Hámori, taste fresh trout, admire the biggest altar screen in Central Europe at the Greek Orthodox Church, listen to world-famous singers at the “Bartók+…” International Opera Festival. You will surely enjoy visiting the first inhabited settlement of Hungary.

    We hope to give you some useful program tips for your stay in Miskolc. The city is waiting for you with love and "open gates".


    1-day program
    Take a look at the city panorama from the Avas lookout tower, and then walk down on the stairs to the downtown area. On the way, you should stop for wine tasting in an Avas cellar. When walking in the city, you should see the Avas Reformed Church and cemetery, Flower Clock, Erzsébet Square, Szinva Terrace, Mancs statue, the Miskolc National Theatre, Museum of Actors and Theatre History, the biggest altar screen in Central Europe and special ecclesiastical treasures at the Orthodox Church and Museum. Have a lunch and direct your way towards Miskolc-Tapolca. Take a walk in the park or adventure park, go boating on the lake and take a bath in the Cave Spa. End of sightseeing tour.

    2-day program
    Day 1
     Take a walk in the downtown: All Saints’ Church, Heroes’ Square, the biggest altar screen in Central Europe and special ecclesiastical treasures at the Orthodox Church and Museum, Miskolc National Theatre, Museum of Actors and Theatre History, Szinva Terrace, exhibitions at the Miskolc Gallery, and the Flower Clock. Have a lunch and continue your way towards Ottó Herman Museum, Avas Church and taste wine in a local cellar. Take a short walk to the lookout tower on the Avas and admire the panorama. An optional program could be to enjoy an opera or theatre performance. Finish your day with a dinner.

    Day 2
    Start with visiting the Diósgyőr Castle (waxworks, exhibitions, archery, coinage, and a beautiful panorama of the city from the northwestern tower) and take the narrow-gauge train to Lillafüred. Visit the St. Stephen Cave (a dripstone cave), Lake Hámori (boating or water biking), have a lunch in the Matthias Saloon of Hotel Palace. Take a walk inside Hotel Palota, visit the hanging garden with the highest waterfall in Hungary and the Anna Cave (lime tufa). Direct your way to Felső-Hámor and visit the Ironworks Museum. Return home.


    4-day program
    Day 1
    Take a walk through downtown: All Saints’ Church, the biggest altar screen in Central Europe and special ecclesiastical treasures at the Orthodox Church, Miskolc National Theatre, Museum of Actors and Theatre History, Szinva Terrace. Visit the exhibitions at the Miskolc Gallery, see the Flower Clock, and have a lunch. Go to the Ottó Herman Museum, Avas Church, and to the Avas lookout tower to admire the panorama. An optional program could be a performance in the theatre, an organ- or jazz concert.

    Day 2
    Start with bathing and medical therapy in the Cave Bath in Miskolc-Tapolca. Have a lunch and take a walk in the park. Visit the adventure park, go boating and visit the Rock Chapel. The Summer Programs in Tapolca are good optional programs before dinner.

    Day 3
    Take the narrow-gauge train to Lillafüred; visit the Ottó Herman Museum and the Limpiász Cross. You can take a light walk to Garadna by way of Lake Hámori. Visit the Újmassa forge and have a lunch at the trout farm in Garadna. From Garadna, take the narrow-gauge train to Lillafüred where you can go boating. Take a walk in the hanging garden of the Hotel Palota (waterfall of Szinva Creek, Anna lime tufa cave) and inside the hotel. At the end of the day, you can listen to a concert in St. Stephen Cave before dinner.

    Day 4
    Visit the Diósgyőr Castle (you can see waxwork collection, exhibitions, try archery, mint a coin, and admire a beautiful panorama of the city from the northwestern tower or simply go bathing in the bath next to the castle) and the Roman Catholic Church of Diósgyőr. Have a good lunch before travelling home.


    5-day program
    Day 1
    Visit the churches of Miskolc: the Rock Chapel of Miskolc-Tapolca, the Greek Catholic Church on Búza (Wheat) Square, the Reformed Plank Church and the heroes’ cemetery, the Orthodox Church and Museum. Take a break and have a lunch in the downtown area. Continue with the Roman Catholic Minorite Church, the Synagogue, the Evangelical Church, and the Avas Reformed Church with its the bell tower and historical cemetery. Finish the day with a dinner in the city.

    Day 2
    Start by visiting the Aggtelek karst area and make a short trip in the Baradla Dripstone Cave, a World Heritage site, and you shouldn’t miss the cave museum either. Try riding the special Hucul horses or enjoy a carriage ride. After lunch, visit the regional house of Jósvafő and take a walk around Tengerszem. Return to Miskolc where you can enjoy the Cave Bath by night.

    Day 3
    Spend the whole day in the Bükk Mountains: travel by bus to Bükkszentkereszt, a subalpine village and health resort. Visit the Glass Museum, see animal trophies, wooden carvings and lime burning. Go horse riding or travel in a carriage. In winter time, you can go on a sleigh ride. Then, a traditional “fat fry” at Lófő clearing or an excursion from Hollóstető to Lillafüred make excellent activities. On the way, you might stop at Szinva Creek and at the St Stephen Cave at the Limpiász cross. Take the narrow-gauge train back to Miskolc and have a dinner.

    Day 4
    Excursion to Tiszaújváros: bath in the Thermal Spa (thermal pools, medical treatment, wave pools, children’s pool and slides) or in the TVK stadium (slides, children’s pools and swimming pools, ice skating all year). You can have a lunch inside the spa and get back to Miskolc in the afternoon. Go shopping, walking in the downtown and have a lunch in Népkert, the city park.

    Day 5
    Take buses no 5 or 15 to Lillafüred. Take a short walk over the Szeleta Peak to Csanyik Valley (admire the beautiful view of Hotel Palota; see the dwelling of ancient man, Szeleta Cave, and the legendary Molnár Rocks). Direct your way to the Wildlife Park and have a lunch before leaving.

    7-day program
    Day 1
    Full day program in Diósgyőr: visit the museum at the local paper factory (Hungarian banknotes are printed here, interactive programs) before lunch. A visit to the Diósgyőr Castle follows (waxworks, exhibitions, knight tournament, archery, mint a coin, and a beautiful panorama of the city from the northwestern tower). In the evening, you can enjoy the cultural events in the castle (folklore festival, Dixie-, blues- and folk music, theatre performances, castle games and medieval dinner).

    Day 2
    Take buses no 5 or 15 to Felső-Hámor. Try rock climbing on the rocks of Hámor and visit the Forge Museum. Visit Anna Cave (a lime tufa cave) in the hanging garden of the Hotel Palota. You can find the highest waterfall in Hungary here. Take a walk around Lake Hámori, go boating or water biking before lunch. Continue towards the Ottó Herman Museum and towards Fehérkőlápa (White Rocks) with its beautiful view of the Szinva Valley. Take the narrow-gauge train back to Miskolc and have a good dinner.

    Day 3
    Excursion to the capital of Matyóföld, Mezőkövesd: sightseeing, Bori Jankó Kis Museum, Matyó Museum, Agricultural Machine Museum. After dinner try the Thermal Spa of Zsóry. Before returning to Miskolc, visit the Matyó folklore programs in the “Táncpajta”. Enjoy folk dance shows or learn dancing, and have a traditional Hungarian dinner there.

    Day 4
    Full day excursion in the Bükk Mountains. Take bus no 15 to Ómassa. Visit the ruins of the Pauline Monastery at Szentlélek and have a rest in the guesthouse. Go to Örvénykő’s Jókai monument with a beautiful view of Tardona and Dédestapolcsány. Walk by the caves (Csókási Cave, Udvarkő Cave, Büdös-pest and Kecske-hole) and visit the Wildlife Park before dinner.

    Day 5
    Excursion to Sárospatak and Tokaj: sightseeing at the “Athens on the banks of the Bodrog”, visiting the Rákóczi Castle and the Library of the Calvinist College before lunch. At Tarcal you can taste wine in the Rákóczi Cellar. Admire the view of Hegyalja and the Great Plains from the Tokaj TV-tower. Go sightseeing in Tokaj: the Tokaj Museum and the Greek Catholic Church. You can buy wine in the cellars before returning to Miskolc. After dinner you can enjoy cultural programs in the city.

    Day 6
    Have a rest in Miskolc-Tapolca: visit the Rock Chapel, go boating, enjoy the adventure park and take a walk in the protected ancient park. Go bathing in the Cave Bath.

    Day 7
    Take a look at the city from the Avas lookout tower. Use the stairs to the downtown area and stop for wine tasting at the cellars. Take a walk in the downtown ( Avas Reformed Church and its cemetery, the Flower Clock, Erzsébet Square, Szinva Terrace and the Miskolc National Theatre, Museum of Actors and Theatre History, and the biggest altar screen in Central Europe and special ecclesiastical treasures at the Orthodox Church). Have a good lunch before leaving the city.
