  • Downtown
The historical buildings of Miskolc – both ecclesiastical and public – can all be found in this protected area. The location of the buildings defines the streetscape. The market place of the Middle Ages – a square today – and Erzsébet Square – the town’s first square from the late 19th century – give the city a unique flavour. The atmosphere of the downtown has been defined for centuries by Szinva Creek, flowing across the city from west to east. Postcards from the early 20th century called the downtown tract of the Szinva “the Venice of Miskolc”. As part of the new image created in the 21st century, the banks of the Szinva and its environment have become a pleasant promenade with statues. The historical downtown is full of amazing sights: the first stone theatre in Hungary, the Miskolc National Theatre, the only Museum of Actors outside Budapest, the Hungarian Orthodox Church Museum with its unique treasures, the biggest altar screen in Central Europe in the adjacent church, the Miskolc Gallery – oldest building of the city – and dozens of churches and other monuments.
On the Avas Hill, in the heart of the city, several monuments waiting for visitors: reformed church built in gothic style with its  separately standing belfry, the cemetary, where rest famous people of Miskolc, the look-out tower, has become a symbol of the city and several wine-cellars.

    Lillafüred
The idea of a representative government resort in Lillafüred was conceived in the 1920s. The Hotel Palace was opened in 1930 and quickly became a favourite place of high society Prestigious events were organized there: congresses, film weeks, international tennis tournaments, and balls. The best-known event of the period was the Writers’ Week in 1933, where Attila József composed his immortal poem, the “Ode”. The reconstructed 3-star hotel in its beautiful environment awaits Hungarian and foreign guests with a famous kitchen and excellent wellness services. Lillafüred is interesting not just for its hotel. If we go on a journey, we can find an iron forge, a legacy of the Fazola family. Take a walk at Hámor, paradise of spelunkers and rock climbers or visit the so-called “big waterfall” next to the Hotel Palota, the highest waterfall in Hungary. Lake Hámori presents a splendid view from the windows of the hotel. The lake was created in the early 19th century by closing a valley to guarantee the necessary water flow for the Upper-Hámor ironworks. The multi-levelled hanging garden of the hotel is a unique sight in Hungary. There are statues and monuments in the garden; the most recent is that of the poet, Attila József.
Besides place of primitive man in Cave Szeleta, you can find two visitable caves in Lilafured.  The St.  István Stalactite Cave famous for rich dripstone forms and respiratory rehabilitation in a curative hall. There are only three other cave like similar to Cave Anna.
The journey through the forest with the narrow-gauge train is also a unique experience. Once it was used to transport lumber and workers. Today, it carries tourists. The narrow-gauge train passes by the first trout farm in the country, the Újmassa forge, and then crosses the highest viaduct of Hungary. The trout farm is not only a place for scientific and genetic research. From spring till autumn, it also serves the speciality of the local restaurant: beech-smoked trout.
Close to Lillafüred, Bánkút and Bükkszentkereszt waiting for the ski-lovers with lightened ski and sledge-runs and crystal-clear curing air.

    Diósgyőr
The only Queen’s Castle in Hungary is to be found in Miskolc. It was the engagement gift of Hungarian queens in the Middle Ages. In the Wildlife Park, built on the site of the former royal wild park, all Hungarian animal species are represented with some other rare species. There are more than 500 animals from 100 species in their natural environment on 20 acres. A famous statue park belongs to the Wildlife Park as well: here, the first Gerald Durell statue in the world was erected.

    Miskolctapolca
The cave bath in Miskolc-Tapolca is a true miracle. 30°C natural thermal water has been running in the cave since the 16th century. The cave offers an experience for visitors, who may enjoy medical and wellness services, too. There is a fabulous park in the valley; its special climate is guaranteed by cold- and hot water springs. Throughout the centuries, steam from the water and its special “fog” has created an extremely rich flora. Visitors may discover an ancient park with all its beauties.
